If I could categorize Subterranean into a genre it would be a lullaby. This film emerged from taking the train late at night after work, and a love of music. Tunes and melodies
eased my brain after a hard day's night and all I could imagine was how wonderful it would be to put this onto film.
Taking the train can be serene when it's empty and you can feel the rails rocking the car side to side; and glimmers of color seeping from the windows.

B-Sides is a compilation of outtakes, deleted scenes, and alternate takes. I had this footage sitting on my computer, and taking a note from Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Blossoms
and Blood', I decided to make a video that acts like a short film. This was a creative way to showcase the footage and a cool way to celebrate the one year anniversary of
Subterranean.

• Panasonic Lumix G7 with 25mm & 15mm lenses
• Rode VideoMic GO
• Tascam DR-05

Filming began at 8 A.M. and went on until 12 P.M. In those four hours we rode the train back and forth between the Essex Street and Broad Street stations on the (J) Train.
Outside, a snow storm was approaching so we had that on our minds as well.

Train Views Demo:
November 11th, 2020
Looking through the polarized glass of the operator's window. The light effect became an anchor of the film's style and look. Some of this footage is even in the final film!
(E) Train Demo:
December 12th, 2020
This demo was made to test the 25mm f/1.7 lens I had just got. The wide aperture made it possible to shoot inside the dark subway tunnels, and the shallower depth of
field was a nice bonus too. The person in the video is a past co-worker.
Heartbeat Demo:

I basically shot what the film would end up becoming just without an actor. Originally I intended the song "Heartbeat" by Taana Gardner to be in the film but changed it last minute
to something more calming and dreamy.
Chambers Street Demo:
January 25th, 2021
Very similar to the Hearbeat Demo; this was shot just to calm my nerves and make sure I knew what I was doing a couple weeks before the shoot. The song "Basic Love" by Demae would
later be used in the film but at this time it wasn't planned. I put it here just because I liked the song recently.
Since I didn't have an actor cast until January 29th, I used myself for lighting references.
